Community Service Scholarship

2023-2024 Application

Scholarship Range

$1,500 – $2,500

Award

The Bel Air Lions Foundation (BALF) will award community service academic scholarships each academic year for deserving students from the Bel Air area to attend higher education. Awards will not be given directly to any student; but rather to the higher education institution. The BALF will adjust the number and amount of awards each year based on funding availability. An applicant is only eligible to receive this award once. This form must be used in its entirety unaltered. It must be typed.

Eligibility

The scholarship is open to graduating high school seniors and home-school students in the Bel Air area who graduate in 2024. The student should plan on attending an accredited community college, college, university or training program (i.e., a trade school, culinary arts). To be eligible, the majority of the Community Service must be completed in the following zip codes: 21009, 21014, 21015, and 21050 (Bel Air, Abingdon, Forest Hill). The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, equipment/supplies or course expenses. Only members of the high school graduating class of 2024 are eligible to apply during this application period.

Award Criteria

Students will be selected based on demonstrated activities and accomplishments in local community service, and their plans to continue serving the community during and after college. Students must have a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. Awards will be based on the student’s demonstrated community service activities with a focus on local service in the Bel Air community. Academic achievements, work experience and extracurricular pursuits will also be considered.

The awards are intended to constitute qualified scholarships. If tax liability arises, it will be the sole responsibility of the recipient.
